ZATEC LEO Bluetooth 5.3 Speaker with Super Bass

The ZATEC LEO Bluetooth speaker is a compact, brand-new speaker with a modern semi-transparent design, a 66 mm driver with reinforced Super Bass and a 1500 mAh rechargeable battery. At $49.99 CAD, it’s sized for a dorm room, a patio table or a small get-together, and it plays from more than your phone: Bluetooth, a USB stick, a micro SD card and an AUX cable all work.

Four ways to play music on the ZATEC LEO Bluetooth speaker

That choice of sources is the main reason to pick the LEO over a Bluetooth-only speaker. At a party, nobody has to hand over their phone to keep the music going: load a playlist on a USB stick or card and leave it playing.

Bringing it to a small party

For a backyard barbecue, a dorm hangout or a games night, the LEO is easy to carry from room to room. Pair it once, keep the playing device within the rated 10-metre Bluetooth range, and set it on a table or shelf where the sound isn’t blocked. It’s a compact speaker, so it fits smaller rooms and gatherings rather than a large outdoor crowd. Hands-free calling lets you make and take calls through the speaker, which is handy when it’s sitting on the kitchen counter while you cook.

Battery and charging

The built-in 1500 mAh battery charges over a standard USB cable at 5 V / 1 A. mAh (milliamp-hours) describes how much charge a battery can hold, not how long the speaker plays; runtime depends on volume and how hard the bass is working, and a playtime figure isn’t listed for this model. Our power bank buying guide explains mAh in more detail if you’d like a backup battery for long days out.

Worth knowing before you buy

• No water resistance rating is listed, so keep it away from the pool, the dock and the rain.
• File formats for USB and micro SD playback aren’t listed. Ask our team if you rely on a particular format.
• The box contents aren’t detailed, so email us if you need to know which cables come with it.
• For daily video meetings, a dedicated conference unit such as the EMEET M0 Plus speakerphone, with 360° microphones and echo reduction, is the better tool.
