Why buy used phones and electronics in Canada?

The biggest reason is price: a pre-owned device typically costs less than the same model new, so your budget can stretch to a higher-end phone, tablet or TV. It's also a simple way to cut e-waste. A device that finds a second owner stays in use longer instead of heading for recycling, and it's one less new device that has to be made. Buying from a store rather than a private seller adds peace of mind, because the device is tested, reset and backed by a warranty, and you have a return window if it isn't right.

How our grading scale works

Grades describe how a device looks, not how well it works. Every used device gets the same full function test before it's listed, whatever its grade.

What every used device goes through

• Full function test of the device's features and controls.
• Factory reset with all personal data and accounts removed, so it's ready for you to set up as your own.
• IMEI check for phones against Canada's lost and stolen blacklist, using the CWTA Device Check.
• Battery health of at least 80% for phones and tablets, with the exact figure listed when it can be measured.
• Cleaning before the device is packed and shipped.

Warranty, returns and what's included

Used devices come with a 90-day limited warranty from Gadget Canada and the same 30-day return window as new items, as long as the device comes back in the same condition you received it. Our returns and refunds policy has the details. Each used item ships with the device and a compatible charging cable unless the listing says otherwise. The original box and accessories aren't guaranteed, so check each listing for exactly what's included.

• Used phones: sold unlocked, IMEI-checked and listed with their battery health. Confirm compatibility with your carrier before you buy.
• Used tablets: factory reset with the previous owner's accounts removed, and at least 80% battery health.
• Used gadgets and appliances: smartwatches, headphones and TVs, each tested, cleaned and graded. For TVs, check dimensions, doorways and electrical requirements before ordering.
