A feeder outside the kitchen window is one of the small pleasures of a Canadian winter, until the chickadee leaves the second you reach for your phone. The Open Box Birdfy Cam FHD is a bird watching camera made to sit near a feeder, nest box or tree and send clear Full HD images to your phone whenever a bird lands close by. It’s $49.99, open box, and ready for the next cold snap.

Who is visiting your yard?

What you capture depends on where you live and the time of year. In winter, chickadees, nuthatches, juncos and jays are familiar feeder visitors in much of the country, and northern cardinals brighten yards in southern Ontario and Quebec. Spring migration brings sparrows and warblers passing through, and summer is hummingbird season. A camera catches the visits you would otherwise miss while you are at work or school.

Setting up a bird watching camera in a Canadian backyard

  1. Check Wi-Fi first. Stand where the camera will go and test the signal on your phone. The built-in antenna helps, but it can’t fix a dead zone at the back fence.
  2. Get close. Mount it near the feeder or nest box so birds fill the frame. Full HD shows the most detail when the subject isn’t far away.
  3. Mind the background. A hedge or fence makes a cleaner backdrop than bright sky, which can turn birds into silhouettes.
  4. Plan for snow. After a storm, brush snow off the housing and lens so the view stays clear.

What the Birdfy Cam brings

Full HD resolution reveals plumage details you can’t make out through the glass. The compact housing is designed for outdoor use, and the mobile app lets you follow activity live, save recordings and share your best sightings with family. Add a field guide and it becomes an easy way to get kids learning species names.

Questions to ask before you order

Our product sheet covers the essentials, but it doesn’t list the power source, mounting hardware, operating temperature or full box contents. If the camera will face a prairie winter, or you need to know how it attaches, email support@gadgetcanada.ca and we’ll check this unit for you before it ships.

Pair it with a feeder made for hummingbirds

For summer, the smart hummingbird feeder with HD camera builds the camera into the feeder itself, with automatic capture and species identification. Together the two come to $109.98, which clears our $99 free-shipping threshold; the shipping policy lists delivery times by province. Find more outdoor gear in Open Box Pool & Garden.

Open box, checked and covered

Open box means the box has been opened and this bird camera isn’t sealed-new. We inspect and test it before shipping, and the open-box grading guide explains how. It carries a 90-day limited warranty and 30-day returns if it comes back in the condition you received it.

Open Box Birdfy Cam FHD Bird Watching Camera: questions & answers

How do I watch the birds?

Through the mobile app on your phone. The camera connects over Wi-Fi, so you can follow activity live, record visits and share your sightings.

Does it need Wi-Fi?

Yes, it connects through a built-in Wi-Fi antenna. Check that your home network reaches the spot where you plan to mount it, especially at the far end of a yard.

Where should I put it?

Near a feeder, a nest box or in a tree, close enough that birds fill the frame. A leafy or fenced background usually looks better than open sky.

Is it powered by a battery or solar panel?

The power source isn't listed on our product sheet. Email support@gadgetcanada.ca and we'll confirm the details for this unit before you order.
